Born and raised in the UK, Kate Lawry’s journey has taken her across the globe—first moving to Sydney at 22, then Seattle at 24, where she spent 16 years, met her Kiwi husband, and had two kids. Fourteen years ago, the family settled in New Zealand, but the adventure hasn’t stopped—her daughter has now moved back to the UK, completing the full-circle moment! With family spread across the UK, and New Zealand, Kate’s life is a blend of travel, connection, and unforgettable experiences. When she’s not designing dream trips, you’ll find her spending time with family and friends, enjoy a sauna and a cold plunge, walking along the beach, cooking, and enjoying a good glass of New Zealand wine.
As Founder and Travel Guru at Journey South, Kate does a bit of everything—from crafting bespoke itineraries to ensuring every detail runs like clockwork. Her love for travel began when her parents booked a trip to Australia when she was 13—a trip that later inspired her very first job in travel at 18. She’s never looked back.
Her best advice for travellers? Slow down! The most magical moments often happen by chance. Whether it’s a mountain top proposal, an up-close swim with whale sharks in Western Australia, or a VIP experience at the Phillip Island Penguin Parade, Kate has orchestrated extraordinary journeys. One recent itinerary was so seamless—with eight flights, helicopter landings, and dive excursions across Australia and New Zealand—that the client raved: "If there were a six-star rating, Kate should get it!"
Kate has been fortunate to experience some of the most breathtaking places on earth. The Kimberley region in Australia stands out as a place that truly gave her goosebumps—raw, remote, and magical. Her dream itinerary? The Kimberley, Fiordland National Park in NZ, and Taha’a in Tahiti.
Among her most unforgettable travel experiences are stumbling upon La Sagrada Família in Barcelona’s backstreets, snorkelling alongside giant manta rays in Bora Bora, and the pure adrenaline of bungy jumping in Queenstown. For a truly once-in-a-lifetime luxury experience, she recommends a helicopter flight over the Great Barrier Reef—only from the air can you truly appreciate its vast beauty. And if there’s one must-do? An overwater bungalow in Tahiti—pure paradise.

As a Travel Coordinator at Journey South, Jessica blends her love for luxury travel with her deep appreciation for the natural beauty of each destination.
